Alpha Research - Alternative Data

About the Role
Our client is a leading quantitative hedge fund looking to hire a quantitative researcher to focus on alpha research using alternative datasets. Your work will focus on feature generation, extracting insights, building and backtesting predictive models, and creating tools to automate tasks, increase productivity, and monitor model performance.
Responsibilities
  • Use quantitative research techniques to research, design, test, and deploy systematic alpha models using alternative data sources;
  • Work with other researchers to identify and develop features useful for building predictive models;
  • Generate interesting insights and identify trends from alternative datasets;
  • Stay abreast of alternative data developments and identify potential new data sources and vendors;
  • Create tools to automate tasks, increase productivity, manage analytics, and monitor alpha model performance;
  • Collaborate with engineering and data sourcing teams to vet data vendors, ensure data integrity and quality;
Qualifications
  • Ph.D., Masters, or Bachelors in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or other STEM related field;
  • Extensive experience working with large, unstructured datasets and creating unique features;
  • Strong mathematical and statistical modeling background;
  • Working proficiency in a programming/scripting language (Python, C++/C, Java);
  • Preference for quantitative researchers with 1-5 years of experience in an idea generating capacity or focusing on alpha research using alternative data. Data scientists or data driven analysts with strong quantitative skills with experience working with large, unstructured datasets are also welcome to apply;
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for using technology, data, and systematic approaches for investment research and trading;
In accordance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $300,000. Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental, and other wellness plans and 401(k) contributions. Discretionary bonuses can be a significant portion of total compensation. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
